Interview with Aaron Hendon, author of the book Don’t Get Fooled Again
Mike Carruthers:
When you buy or sell a house you use a realtor but you don’t do that very often. So how do you choose a realtor?
Aaron Hendon:
I think the best way to go about finding a good realtor is to first of all think about: 1. what’s your objective? When you sell your home what do you really want out of that transaction?
Realtor Aaron Hendon, author of the book Don’t Get Fooled Again…
I think the answer most people would give there is, I want to sell my home for the most money and I want to sell it in the least amount of time and I want the least hassle – I mean if they just stopped and got presence of what they really wanted.
Then, Aaron says, once you know that you should interview several realtors.
Under any other circumstance you wouldn’t just hire someone you would interview someone. Mike the thing is that in my years in real estate my partners years in real estate it’s so seldom that we actually get interviewed.
And the big question you should ask every realtor, says Aaron, is…
Tell me your track record selling homes. What percent of asking price do you sell homes for? And how many days on market and how does that compare to the local average? The realtor should know that information – should be able to tell you. That’s the number 1 question that I find that would make the most sense that people don’t ask.
And Aaron says it’s also important to feel good about the person who’s selling your home for you.
Have them take you out to lunch and see if there’s a connection. Because you are going to need to like this person – you’re going to be working with this person for a long time in a very expensive proposition. This is the most expensive thing you own.
