Interview with Jack Gillis, author of the book The Car Book 2017
Mike Carruthers:
Electric cars are already here but many people are still reluctant to buy one.
Jack Gillis:
Range anxiety is still a big problem for consumers when they consider an electric vehicle. But with 200 miles on a charge and the fact that most of us drive 60-70 miles maximum on a particular day we think these vehicles are going to take off.
Jack Gillis, author of the book The Car Book 2017…
In addition the pricing of those vehicles is much more in line with what we would expect to pay for a car that is between 30 and 40 thousand – still kind of an amazing number for some of us. But between 30 and 40 thousand instead of the 90 thousand the popular Tesla costs. So the lowering of price, the reduction of range anxiety and the fact that I think people are going to be attracted to electric cars because of the cool factor – because they’re a high-tech product.
With all the talk about driverless cars Jack says there are still a lot of problems to work out before they become commonplace.
You see a police officer in front of you will the vehicle know when he raises his or her hand, are they waving you on are or are they stopping you? You know there are so many different things – what happens when you’re at an intersection and the light is red but the police officer is waving you on? Or vice versa the light’s green and the police officer is saying, “Wait a minute – stop”.
