Interview with Dr. John M. Kennedy, author of the book The Health Bible
Mike Carruthers:
If you want to live and long and healthy life it’s probably good to know what’s likely to kill you.
Dr. John M. Kennedy:
Heart disease is the #1 killer in America for both men and women. You know there 1,500 heart attacks a day, about a million deaths a year and that number is actually rising.
Cardiologist Dr. John M. Kennedy, author of the book The Health Bible…
And with a very alarming fact – which means that two thirds of men, their 1st time presenting ever to me, as a cardiologist, is with a heart attack or sudden death. And up to 50%, almost 50% of women present with their 1st time to me, as a cardiologist, with a heart attack or sudden cardiac death. So it’s a scary disease, we need to do whatever we can to prevent it from happening.
And to do that you need to know what the risk factors for heart disease are and in addition to smoking they include…
…high blood pressure, high cholesterol, diabetes, physical inactivity and obesity. If you’re a man and your waist size is 40 inches or if you’re a women and it’s 38 inches then you’re obese and you tend to develop these cardiac risk factors.
Dr. Kennedy says everyone should know their numbers when it comes to these risk factors.
Because if you have all normal numbers those are if your blood pressure’s normal, how often you exercise is normal or ideal, your waist size is normal and your blood sugar’s normal and your cholesterol’s normal then it’s very unlikely that you will succumb to this disease.
