Effective Stress Relief
Interview with Dr. Frank Lawlis, author of The Stress Answer

Mike Carruthers:
Few people would argue we're living in one of the most stressful times ever. And that life stress can cause us to get locked in to worry, rage, and all kinds of negative thinking.

Dr. Frank Lawlis:
And the way you get out of it is you start correcting your breathing. You start taking long breaths, not particularly deep breaths but long breaths and that will change the way your brain functions because it restores the oxygen level.

Dr. Frank Lawlis, author of the book The Stress Answer, says another effective way to cope with stress is to listen to rhythmic music that has a steady drum pattern.

What the drumming patterns will do is that it entrains the brain, it brings it out of that kind of chaotic status and it puts your brain into more of a rhythm. You have this increase in creativity and joy, a sense of the positive that will come about. This is one of the oldest ways that we know that human-kinds have dealt with stress - through dance and drumming.

And Dr. Lawlis says simply smelling flowers can reduce your stress level.

You know lavender and honeysuckle, those really powerful aromas? Go to the flower itself and just breathe in that aroma directly from the blossom. You will notice an immediate effect - especially women really respond well.
