10, 2008 Can You Really Prevent Cancer? II Interview
with Dr. David Servan-Schreiber, author of
Anti Cancer | Mike
Carruthers: Did you know that we all have cancer cells in our
bodies? Dr.
Philip Zimbardo: There's no question about this - 100% of people
have cancer cells in their bodies. The key determinate as to whether you get cancer
or not is how healthy your anti-cancer defenses are. Dr.
David Servan-Schreiber, author of the book
Anti Cancer A New Way of Life, says a lot of cancers may be preventable just
by changing lifestyle habits and diet is a big part of it. Certain foods have
true cancer-fighting properties including… Cauliflower,
broccoli and cabbage that are known to directly attack cancer cells and to slow
the growth of new blood vessels that the tumors need. And then there are some
simple foods that have been the staple of the Mediterranean diet: garlic, onion
and leeks. The
spice turmeric shows great promise in the fight against cancer. And
it is the most potent anti-inflammatory natural compound that we know of. It is
now being studied as a direct anti-cancer agent because it is so powerfully anti-cancer. And
stress is an important factor in cancer. There
are two types of stress. There is a stress that leaves you powerless, helpless
and this type of stress contributes to the growth of an existing cancer. However,
stress that makes you get on your feet and take some control over your environment
may very well be more effective at reducing cancer growth than not having any
stimulation in your life. At
